Every New Year’s Eve one of my standard resolutions is to eat more fruits and vegetables. I do OK with the vegetables, but the fruit just never happens. I try for about a week, but since summertime grapes are still a long way away, it fizzles quickly. Fruit is just not my thing.
They say a healthy diet and regular exercise can reduce the risk of breast cancer. In my case, reduce the risk of recurrence. So, since I have been home for 2 weeks now, no excuses. There have been no 2 hour rides back and forth to Western Mass, no 10 hour work days, no missed lunches, and no Tuesday night Joe’s with the girls (that I do miss!). Plus, the positive influence of my husband, who is a bit of a fruit junkie and master shake maker.
So, everyday after I take a 3-4 mile walk, I make a shake! Yes, made out of FRUIT. Oranges, watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, frozen strawberries, whatever I can find, even bananas (which I don’t even like!). It’s yummy and my new addiction!
It’s safe to say that in the last 10 days I’ve had more fruit than I’ve had in probably the last 3 years combined. It feels good. So, back to surgery on Tuesday and then on to the business of keeping the cancer from coming back. I’ve already got a jump start thanks to my new healthy fruit shake addiction!
I love it. You are so right about fruits and veggies. You inspired me so much, took out the blender and put it on the counter. Heading to Star right now to buy fruit for our smoothies.
I really like the idea of this blog😄
Yea! They are so good. Greg showed me how to make them and add some Vitamin C and protein powder for an extra boost!! Glad you are inspired…as you have inspired me!
Keep plugging away Deb!
