With all the electronic gadgets & complexity in our lives these days, it’s nice to simplify once and a while and get back to basics. Good basic fun, nothing complicated, just fun! That’s what this past weekend was all about.
We journeyed to Ocean Isle Beach, NC with three other couples for Memorial Day weekend. We stayed right at the beach and with temps in the 80s and not a cloud in sight there was no need to venture further. We had all we needed – 8 beach chairs, a cooler, and CORNHOLE.
For those who have never played cornhole – according to Wikipedia – Cornhole, also known as bean bag toss, corn toss, baggo or bags and even Lawn Darts For Drunks is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing bags of corn at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point, first team to 15 wins. That’s it, pretty simple!
We’re a competitive bunch, so naturally it turned into two days of Competitive Cornhole. Game after game for 6+ hours on the beach each day. It was serious stuff, but we got silly and the later it got the harder it was to keep score (there was also some competitive beer drinking going on).
Good friends, good fun! I’m proud to say Team Norris was undefeated for the entire weekend in mixed-doubles! I guess all the time we’ve been spending together lately paid off – we were in sync and unbeatable, even came back from being down 14-6 to a random couple on the beach that challenged us…
Now, time to rest for a few days. Hard to believe at this time last year I just finished my radiation treatments, I was sore, I was exhausted, and I was getting ready to go back to work. What a difference a year makes! 🙂
